35th TOPIK 2| 30
Hi there! Welcome to my study blog. Today we will continue with the 30th exercise from the 35th TOPIK 2 exam.

In this exercise we can get a glimpse of how they held the banquets during the Joseon era. This text was fun and informative so let’s dive in and check the unknown words:
Vocabulary:
명절 (名節): national holiday
잔치를 열다: to throw a party
백성 (百姓): subjects, people
의도 (意圖): intention, purpose
과시하다 (誇示): to show
풍습 (風習): manners and customs
Also at this point I just found myself struggling with new words,so I figured that getting the Hanjas right might help me remembering the traslations. This list won`t be inclusive, I`ll put only the ones down there which I found particularly hard to remember.
Hanja:
성 (盛): abundant, flourishing, contain
지 (地): earth, soil, region
위 (位): position, rank, seat
백 (百): one hundred, numerous
성 (姓): clan, people
의 (意): opinion,idea, thought
과 (誇): exaggerate, brag
풍(風): wind, air, manners
대 (待): treat, entertain, receive
접 (接): receive, continue, catch
I found some great expressions which could be great assets later on and these are the folowing:
Care to do some translation exercise?
During big national holidays or celebrations they held a banquet at the castle
They put delicious and precious food on the table
But the food was not only for the king and the high ranking people
In order to distribute the food after the banquet to the people living in poverty they deliberately prepared more.
Through the party
Wanting to share the country`s happiness with the people
And here are the answers:
